The AKA?

Matt.. it's free hosting on Brian Reid's cloud. You do understand what that means right? He is literally the words best as this, Google asked him to fix all their machines and they have a lot, he was VP of engineering. Not only is he qualified Matt you can't find anyone in the world more qualified. Plus, he and I have maintained all the killifish information in America for a decade until the AKA was dragged kicking and screaming online in the 90s to become the first national fish club on the web.

Doesn't that count? See below; who else maintains that data and for free on the work fastest server maintained by the guy who invented everything from the 24-core Unix network box in his house up to and including the Palo Alto Internet Exchange, the fastest of its kind in the world?

It's not really a very good question. You can probably find the best guy in the world at hosting other peoples stuff, give them the keys to the AKA site and you know what you get? They'll change the font and some colors and send you a bill.

But if you want the two best qualified people in the world to sort it out and run it then I think that's your answer.

The thing is Matt, I'm throwing in hosting for free as an afterthought to save the AKA some money, that's not what I'm asking for money for - I want to curate the data and don't care whose machine it's on but I'd like to point out I'm already doing this and you can't find a better host anywhere in the world for any price.

The hosting issue is a red herring, but the answer is, "Brian Reid's reputation and experience are a matter of public record and you can not buy more robust or faster hosting and its free, always as part an offer Brian made in 1986 in perpetuity." You can verify this with Brian if you need to: brian@reid.org.

I maintained sites for banks and credit card companies for work in the financial industry for Citibank VP - Steve Marmott (smarmott@rcn.com) for over a decade and by writing and hosting their site I increased sales for a Mercedes parts wholesaler in Atlanta (http://mbz.org - Gary Hurst, http://parts.mbz.org by an order of two magnitudes during that same decade when I was doing that sort of thing.

... which I stopped doing for other people in 2005. Brian and I operate a cloud in Palo Alto of our own design from hardware to software. I have no need to host anyone else's site and only host my own 6 or 7 sites on there. Brian and I are still committed as always to help the AKA with the infrastructural requirements of their online presence.

I'm not sure what "support" it'll need. I want to do this because it will make my work easier and if the AKA site is down or broken in any way then it's the first thing to get fixed - I can't even work without it, and this way it gets fixed faster in the unlikely event it's down, we're up more than Google is. Having said all that, I don't understand the question. I'm offering to curate the data. Support can be done through the AKA Facebook group where all the guys hang out now, I read it and respond there and have for a while. I don't see this as an issue, more of a distraction to getting the data to the people, the mandate of the club. Even if I was the worst in the world at this and it was only up half the the time it is better to have 100% of all the AKA's information up 50% of the time than having some of th emost valuable information about these fishes sit in boxes and be available online 0% of the time.

What I'm describing is already the way things work now, all the clubs in the world exchange show results data this way presently, and that process works well.
